We offer the following services to keep your pets healthy:

Advanced Digital X-rays
At San Joaquin Veterinary Hospital in Fresno, CA , we are proud to be on the cutting edge of medical technology. Radiology is a technique and diagnostic tool that we use to look inside the body in an entirely non-invasive way. X-rays allow us to create images of all the body’s organs.
In other words, the use of radiology gives us a view of the internal organs in your pets’ body that we otherwise could not see. It is a valuable diagnostic tool that helps veterinarians detect and prevent illness.

Dental Care
Everyday we learn more and more that our pets dental health affects their quality of life. As dental disease progresses, more bacteria accumulates and travels down to other organ systems like the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys. Advanced periodontal disease commonly causes oral pain that goes unnoticed. Maintaining healthy teeth on your dog and cat not only makes them a happier and more comfortable pet, it also has been shown to extend their life expectancy. We offer complete dental cleanings as well as full mouth radiology and tooth extractions if necessary. We use digital dental radiagraphy to asses dental disease in your pets mouth and it allows for immediate assessment of teeth that may have disease that wouldn’t readily be apparent on physical exam. We have taken many hours of continuing education to help our team deal with the many dental problems that we can encounter.

In-House Laboratory
Our in-house laboratory allows us to perform many types of testing that can aid in the diagnosis and treatment of your pet. Our state-of-the-art, in-house laboratory equipment allows us to diagnose your pet in most cases while you wait. Our trained team is available to perform testing that will enable a patient to go safely to surgery or to aid with early disease detection.

Laser Therapy
We are proud to announce we are now offering laser therapy, an innovative new way to treat pain and inflammation in pets. Laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects such as improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation, and decreased swelling. Multiple studies have shown laser therapy can help with a variety of problems including arthritis, joint pain, ligament sprains, muscle strains, dog/cat bites, feline acne/asthma, hotspots, post trauma/surgery pain, hip dysplasia, lick granulomas, and snake/bug bites.

Microchipping
At San Joaquin Veterinary Hospital, we are happy to offer microchipping. Every year, thousands and thousands of pets go missing. Not knowing where your pet is or how to bring them back can be a helpless, hopeless feeling. It’s a tragedy that happens all too often.
But there is a simple, safe, and effective way to ensure your pet’s safety and retrieval should he or she ever become lost. Microchipping is a standard procedure that implants a tiny chip underneath your pet’s fur. It is a painless and relatively fast procedure and is completely safe.

Parasite Prevention
The idea of your pet being infested with parasites is a disturbing thought, but it’s also a medical issue that can have serious consequences if not properly dealt with or prevented. Parasites pose a variety of health issues for our pets, who can be very susceptible to certain parasites depending on age, region, and other factors.
At San Joaquin Veterinary Hospital, we emphasize the importance of preventing parasites. Through preventative measures, you can successfully protect your pet. Pets that are not protected often develop parasites, leading to serious problems for them and their owners.

Pain Management
One of our concerns, when your pet comes in for a surgical procedure, is how comfortable it will be after the procedure is done. Even routine spays and neuters are painful. There have been studies linking post-surgical pain with longer recovery after anesthesia as well as prolonged healing time. We have several types of injectable pain management drugs for mild, moderate, and severe pain, as well as oral tablets, liquids, and transdermal pain patches to make your pet feel more comfortable at home with you. Our hope is that we made your pet’s stay here at San Joaquin Veterinary Hospital a pleasant one.

Pharmacy
It is our goal to provide you with complete veterinary care in a professional and accessible atmosphere. That is why we offer a fully stocked pharmacy to fill your pets’ prescription needs.
Having an on-site pharmacy provides you with a more convenient way to get your pet’s medication. We hope that this will save you time and ultimately enhance your experience with us.

Preventative Care
We believe the best way to promote overall health is through preventative care. Regular checkups allow us to establish a baseline in your pets’ health and make us aware of any changes that may indicate future problems.
We highly recommend bringing your pet in for regular exams. Often health problems that go undetected can become more severe issues when left untreated, so checkups are important even when your pet appears healthy.

Puppy and Kitten Care
Getting a new puppy or kitten is very exciting. You have a lot to look forward to. The great companionship that a good pet can bring is very rewarding. However, puppies and kittens come with a lot of responsibility and work. Here at San Joaquin Veterinary Hospital, we are here to help you with your new addition.
First, you should always bring your new puppy or kitten in for a full nose-to-tail examination to make sure that you have a healthy new animal. You also want to get him or her familiar with our veterinary hospital.

Spay and Neuter
Spaying and neutering are important and necessary medical procedures that enhance the quality of your pets’ life. Not only does spaying and neutering have positive effects on your pets’ health, but it’s also vital to controlling the homeless pet population.

Surgery
Our dedicated surgical suite is equipped with the latest monitoring and support devices. Items like suction, electrocautery positive flow ventilation, and patient warming devices all ensure the safest environment for surgical procedures like spays and neuters to abdominal exploratory surgeries.
Soft tissue procedures range from standard spays and neuters to more complicated surgeries like abdominal exploratory, splenectomy, hernia repair.
Our most important priority is the safety of our patients. We believe the benefits of the procedure always have to outweigh the health risks. With the advent of newer anesthetics and newer monitoring devices, we can safely administer anesthesia to our geriatric patients. Our monitoring includes blood pressure, PO2, heart rate and ECG. We take into consideration the age and health of your pet as well as the procedure being done and use that information to choose an appropriate anesthetic protocol for your pet. We also recommend pre-anesthetic blood screening as an additional measure to make sure your pet can handle the stress of full anesthesia.

Vaccinations
Vaccines are an everyday part of our life. We vaccinate our young ones as they grow and follow a recommended protocol. With more information becoming available as with the potential risks with overvaccinating, we have changed our vaccination protocols based on the recommendations from AAHA, AAFP, and the most current symposiums. (Why put your loved one at risk for a serious disease if vaccination can prevent that financial burden?)
Our vaccination protocol is as follows:
DOGS Core vaccinations:
First DAPP vaccine is given between 6-8 weeks
Then the same vaccine is repeated every 3-4 weeks until the puppy is 15 – 16 weeks old.
Rabies is given after 4 months of age. Both DAPP and Rabies are boostered in one year then every 3 years after that.

The Doctors at San Joaquin Veterinary Hospital are both well-trained and passionate about exotics as they are about any other species. We have treated a great variety of birds, rodents, and reptiles. While working with Critter Creek (a wildlife animal rehabilitation and release organization.), we have cared for wildlife from hummingbirds to mountain lions and everything in between. Our services for exotics vary from annual examinations and preventative medicine.
